As we barrel towards the year 2035 when the majority of auto manufacturers commit to stop production of normal aspirated passenger cars, we have to ponder the future of the use of vintage and antique motorcycle on public roads.
The good news is, thirty years of tracking emissions data has proved the impact North American motorcycles contribute to the environment is basically insignificant. You may be unaware that the motorcycle (old or new) in Canada and the USA are insignificant contributors to the Green House Gas (GHG) problem. Due to their limited use and numbers in North America. And probably unaware that in India and Indonesia the very, very large use of motorcycles for cheap transportation make them a very significant GHG contributor.
U.S. Emissions Data 2021
Also additional data includes the table of the Canadian GHG emissions in terms of Mt CO2 equivalents (Million tons of Carbon dioxide equivalents. Motorcycles in Canada (about 740,000 licensed motorcycles) generated 300,000 tons of CO2 equivalents in 2019. Total road transportation was 153 million tons CO2 equivalents.
In the Agriculture section “Enteric fermentation” is 24 million tons of CO2 equivalents and is the amount of CO2 equivalents burped or farted by ruminant animals such as dairy and beef cattle and sheep.
