Howard Wagner was honored on Saturday, March 23, 2024 during the AMCA Omaha Chapter National Meet's annual banquet. Howard was originally scheduled to attend the banquet to honor him, accompanied by his son Darryl. Only one week prior to the banquet Darryl informed the AMCA that Howard was not well enough to travel.
The banquet hall was packed with Howard's friends and the night dedicated entirely to him. Gene Harper, Tom Freed, Phil Mast and Keith Kizer recounted numerous stories about Howard. The repeating theme is that Howard never said a foul word nor had anything bad to say about any person. Close friends filmed each speaker and sent the videos to the family.These were played for Howard to hear before he passed.
As each speaker told funny stories of Howard, a television in the background showed numerous photos of Howard from childhood, throughout the years with the AMCA and many of his motorcycle restorations or creations. A display of AMCA Meet attendance ribbons and name badges were on display. Howard himself just recently donated his 50 year collection of ribbons to the AMCA archives, which will be displayed at the Antique Automobile Club of America's Library in Hershey, PA.
A visitation for Howard will be held Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A funeral service will occur Friday, March 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
Howard will be laid to rest in Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family is asking for as many old motorcycles to be in attendance as possible. They have arranged for a dedicated parking area and a place in the procession for motorcycles. Darryl said, They want the engines to roar to heaven!"
