AMCA History
AMCA is looking for Assistance in Hershey, PA

Dear AMCA History Buffs,

After 30 years of dedication to the AMCA Archives by the original Archivist George Yarocki and then Bruce Linsday, the 68 years of club archives are finally getting a new permanent home.

Last year, our friends at the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) moved into a beautifully restored historical building in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It’s also the new home of the AACA Library. They have graciously offer us space in this new facility for our AMCA archives.

In November we are moving all our archives to the fully staffed, secured, fire protected and climate-controlled safety of the AACA Library. The bonus is that these wonderful documents will be accessible by the public for the first time in club history.

We have formed an Archival Committee to oversee the logistics of reorganizing our 25 banker boxes of archives into smaller archival boxes. Much of the planning is being done in advance of transporting the materials to Hershey in November, but more hands will equal fewer days to complete the onsite project.

This project could take three to four days to complete at the library. As of now, we have four committee members, and I am the only one budgeted to travel for this task. We are reaching out to all AMCA members to see if anyone would be willing to donate a portion of their airline travel miles that would allow us to bring in one or two more committee members to Hershey for this project.

Our plans are for at least three members of our Archival committee to participate in this project. Me being from Alabama; one from Oregon; and another from New York. To save the club on travel expenses, we are also hoping that a couple of local members would be willing to open their homes to one or two of us traveling to Hershey.

Our current plans are to work at the library in Hershey from November 7-10th. If you are willing to either donate miles or help with housing, we would be eternally grateful. If interested, please reply to this email or feel free to contact me by phone. I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Keith Kizer
AMCA Executive Director
